University of Utah Hospital Expansion
This 253,000 square foot addition to the existing facility will add 94 patient care rooms and a state of the art kitchen and dining area. Two 1000 KW generators were added to the existing parallel switchgear. Four 1500 KVA transformers were added for the new service to the building. This project posed many challenges. One of the bigger challenges was the site constraints. Just in time delivery was mandatory on this project. The 12 15KV feeds to the existing hospital had to be relocated in order for construction to begin. This was done by cutting a six-foot-wide trench through the lower level of the existing parking structure and up the side of the retaining wall. A large man hole was cast in place in order to splice all the cables that were re-routed around the site. The initial budget was set from Program with schematic design drawings.
