University of Utah: College of Nursing

The extensive renovation of the 87,000 square foot College of Nursing Building is a much-welcomed upgrade that will better meet the needs of the students and faculty. A highlight of the renovation project involved enclosing a former parking area and creating a state-of-the-art Simulation Center, which allows students to practice clinical nursing through a number of technology programs—including full-body, interactive patient simulators. Each patient area is set up just like true patient room would be including normal and critical power. Along with creating the Simulation Center, the project scope also included a complete seismic upgrade, new mechanical system and remodeling of several floors. The project was planned using BIM technology. Existing conditions were entered and new items were overlaid. This reduced the construction time frame while increasing accuracy of the installation. The project included a new service and new emergency power system. New lighting was installed throughout the project along with new control features.
