Thatcher Building for Biological and Biophysical Chemistry

This 50,000 square foot addition to the Eyring Chemistry Building and includes state-of-the-art classrooms, offices, laboratories, and support spaces. The project is designed to achieve LEED Silver. The fourth floor includes a 94-seat lecture hall. The nine labs are dedicated for research in Bio-Analytics, Bio-Physics, and Bio-Organic Chemistry. Five more labs are designated as teaches labs. The project included networked lighting control with local control and daylight harvesting. Service to the building included the addition of a new 2000A switchgear section to the existing service. Custom bussing was designed and installed. A new 750KW Generator provides Life safety power. It also provides emergency power to research equipment. The project was originally budgeted from a program with schematic design drawings. Cost increases were due to scope changes including the buildout of an originally shelled third floor.
