Star Mill Restoration & Addition

The Star Mill Restoration and Addition project is a 20,000 square foot addition to a former our mill constructed in 1890’s. The mill was in operation through the mid-70’s. The mill was renovated to allow for office space. A majority of the original mill equipment still remains and makes for a unique work space. The wood grain cribs have become the building owner’s office. The two existing silos have been utilized as well. One silo had floors installed to match each of the three levels of the addition to serve as conference rooms. The other silo became a spiral staircase. The construction is all wood. Each floor is made up of cross-laminated wood structure system eliminating the need for floor joists between the main support beams. Almost all of the electrical system is exposed. Specialty lighting was purchased from the UK and includes fixtures recovered from old warehouses and buildings across Europe. This was a design/build project, mostly design-as-you- go project. Josh Strickland has done a great job at keeping up with the changes and meeting the owner’s sudden requests and short time lines.
