PBS Distance Learning Center

The PBS Distance Learning Center is recognized as a LEED Gold facility and one of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly facilities in the state of Nevada. This project consists of an 112,000 square foot Education Technology Campus and features the Clark County School District’s Virtual High School and Educational Media Center as well as Homeland Security and Emergency Response Support System for all Las Vegas PBS Departments. The electrical system consists of a 4000-amp service, five uninterruptible power supplies and a 2500 KW emergency generator system. The roof houses a Photovoltaic system that consumes 90% of the roof area. This system provides 380 KW of solar power back into the building’s electrical system. The panels are motorized allowing them the follow the location of the sun to provide maximum solar energy throughout the daylight hours. There are six production studios used for education and television production along with numerous classrooms and administrative facilities. The lighting, light dimming and controls are state of the art and provide maximum light controllability for the facility. Other special systems for the project include Fire Alarm, Card Access, Intrusion Detection, CCTV, Intercom, Clock, Telecom and Data low voltage systems.
